Make Passwords More Secure:

Do:

  • Use passwords of eight characters or more with mixed types of characters.
  • For safe measure, change your passwords periodically.
Do Not:
  • Use the same username/password combination for multiple websites.
  • Use keyboard combinations (everyone knows 1q2w3e4r).
  • Use your name, dictionary words, repetition, letter or number sequences, kid or pet names, or birthdays.
Tips & Tricks:
  • Create non-words that are easy to remember: use first letters of lines in songs + a number: “Imagine All The People, Living Life In Peace” = iatPLLip4
  • Nick names of friends, backwards: “JimmyB = byMmij”
  • Your favorite food+number+color, backwards with a number: “Pizza2Green” = “neerG2azziP”
  • Associate it with a website: iatPLAmzLip4 (for Amazon)
